A GANG stole a watch which had been passed down to the grandson of a man killed at the Auschwitz concentration camp.

The watch had belonged to the robbery victim’s grandfather before he was killed at the Second World War concentration camp.

It had been handed to the robbery victim’s father shortly before the grandfather entered the death camp.

The victim was visiting Brighton for a short break from his home in Wiltshire.

He decided to go for a stroll on July 20 between 7am and 8am and walked along King’s Road.

He reached the area on the seafront near the Hilton Hotel when he was approached by three men with cans of drink in their hands.

They started chatting to him and said they were from South East London. They asked for his phone and he refused. They then grabbed his bag before kicking him in the groin and running off.

The bag contained a number of personal items, including the silver Longines watch.

It is described as having a clear face, with Roman numerals, dated circa 1912.

Detective Constable Caroline Biggs said: “Obviously the victim is devastated that this item has been stolen. Anyone who has any information about such an item recently being offered for sale or seen with anyone is asked to contact us.

“We'd also like to hear from anyone who saw what happened or saw these men in the area at the time.”

All three are described as white, in their late teens and about 5ft 7in in height.

The man who grabbed the bag is described as having mousy short hair, of slim build and was wearing a white hoodie and white tracksuit.

The man who kicked the victim in the groin was also of slim build, with short dark hair and was wearing a dark-blue jogging jacket.

The third man, who asked to see the victim’s phone, had dark short hair and wore a dark-blue hooded top.

The police want two young women who were with the men but were not involved in the robbery to come forward.

One is described as white, with pink hair and is aged in her 20s.

She is of slim build, about 5ft 7in and was wearing a light top and dark jeans.

The second was of Indian or Asian appearance, about 5ft 7in and wore a hooded grey top and dark jeans.

Anyone with information should call police on 101 or email 101@sussex.pnn. police.uk.

Alternatively, call the independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.

I suspect we are not being told the whole story here. Why did he get into conversation with them? Why was a watch of such huge sentimental value carried in a bag? When it became obvious that he was going to be the victim of a robbery why not turn and run? Answers please.

Much as I sympathize with this chaps loss the constant repetition in the media about Hitler, WW2, concentration camps, etc seems to me to be being used to stop people from protesting about the horrific things being done NOW in Gaza.

If that's not a Holocaust I don't know what is.

There are regular protests about what's happening in Gaza if you want to get involved. This story has nothing to do with it, and no-one else has made that connection. It seems to me you're a bit in danger of actually doing what it is you're complaining about.

Eer not even remotely comparable. Israel is targeting Hamas operatives firing rockets into Israel then hiding among its own civilians.

If Israel wanted to wipe out the gaza strip, it has the ability to do that very quickly. But obviously it doesn't, it just wants to go after Hamas . This is why missiles that could kill thousands in one go are not being used but more targeted smaller missiles.

to say a democratic state fighting a terror group is comparable to what happened in ww2 is laughable and shows you are either very biased or have no understanding of the situation.

The palestinians need to stop being held to ransom by hamas then a peace deal can be agreed with Israel.

No one likes to see high civilian casualties least of all Israel.

The children we have all seen that were killed on a beach were certainly NOT terrorists of any kind and were obviously deliberately targeted.

Hamas were elected, it is the Gaza government - the people are entitled to have one for Gods sake.

The intransigent side in the stagnant peace process is the one that is busy building new settlements on other peoples land. Any deal would get in the way of that.

Oh Poem58. If you sympathize with the Palestines so much, bloody go out there and see how long you last. In fact go and spout your Marxist filth in Iran, Lebanon, Libya, some parts of Egypt, Syria, Afghanistan, Pakistan or any other god-forsaken Muslim state. Please mention that you are unhappy about treatment of women, the gays and animals.

You will last less than 4 minutes.

Back to the thread - hope the police catch the filth who did this.

No one likes to see high civilian casualties least of all Israel? This is one of the most delusional claims ever seen on this site, and I've read a lot of HJARRS and Stevo!!s posts.
Of course Israels attempts to cleanse the land of its indigenous population has nothing to do with the huge gas reserves in the area.
Your argument seems to consist of stating that if the Palestinians stop fighting back then Israel can finish stealing their country and it will all be over more quickly. Because we all know the violence won't stop until the Palestinians have nothing left that the Israelis want.

Why has Poem58 chosen his story to talk about Gaza?? This isn't actually a story about concentration camps, it's a story about somone who had a watch with sentimental value stolen. If he's stupid enough not to see that it arrogant enough not to care then there's no hope for him.

Israel on the other hand is using strictly "equal opportunity" munitions, which are guaranteed to obliterate anything that moves, irrespective of gender, sexuality and species!
