A BENEFITS cheat who claimed for a home he no longer lived in has been fined.

David Evans claimed housing benefit for a number of years but then failed to tell Hastings Borough Council when he left his address in January 2013 and was overpaid housing benefit of £2357.14 up to August of last year.

The 48-year-old, who used to live in Bohemia Road, St Leonards, was fined £1,200 as well as £333 costs, a £120 victim surcharge and ordered to repay all overpaid benefit in his absence from court last week.
