A pedestrian is in hospital with serious injuries after being hit by a car when it mounted the pavement.
The 20-year-old woman, from Storrington, was knocked down near to the A27 Grove Lodge roundabout in Worthing just after 3pm yesterday.
After colliding with the woman, the vehicle then crashed into a roadside traffic sign.
The female pedestrian was taken to the Royal Sussex County Hospital in Brighton with serious head injuries.
The driver of the grey Renault Clio involved in the accident, a 78-year-old man, was not injured.
Police are appealing for witnesses to the incident.
Anyone who saw what happened or noticed the Renault shortly before the incident is asked to phone Sussex Police on 101 or email collision.appeal@sussex.pnn.police.uk, quoting Operation Northland.
