Scooby Doo – The Mystery of the Pyramid is an action-packed and superbly entertaining live rendition of its cartoon counterpart.

It brilliantly combines the best of contemporary family theatre and pantomime techniques with the essence of all things Scooby.

The whole team is there, cast perfectly for their physicality. Their delightfully accurate voices and meticulously accurate costumes complete the aesthetic.

The story follows the classic Scooby Doo curve complete with sharp witty one-liners and a finale revelation.

Shaggy and Scooby play to the audience alternating their madcap mixture of enthusiasm and sheer terror. The choreography and musical numbers are superb, and the sound track, heavily laced with garage, surf and psychobilly, is a tonic for any adult who wants to escape from the sugar-safe pop that usually accompanies any form of family entertainment.

All this framed within a lavish set animated with sumptuous lighting makes for a visual treat.

Whether a Scooby Doo fan, or just someone looking for a genuinely fun way to spend an evening with the family this show really is perfect for everyone.

And with the Theatre Royal’s introduction of a relaxed performance on Thursday there really is no reason not to give it a try.
