A new youth hostel will be created in Brighton as part of a multi-million fund for towns affected by winter storms.

The Department for Local Government and Communities has announced that £410, 000 will be awarded to establish a new youth hostel in Brighton and develop an existing site in Robin Hoods Bay in Yorkshire.

According to the department, the newly developed hostels will provide new and improved holiday accommodation in two popular coastal towns, boost tourism numbers and help create a new café for both locals and visitors.

It is anticipated that the project will create and support around 76 jobs in total.

The funding is part of £8.5 million announced this morning from the Coastal Communities Fund.

Other beneficiaries include Penzance which will receive almost £2 million to relaunch the grade II listed Jubilee Pool Lido and Portsmouth which received almost £1.8 million to repair their “neglected” Victorian arches.
