Sussex Police has announced that it will be showing its support for Pride “more publicly than ever” this time around.

The Pride flag will be flying at Brighton’s John Street police station and for the first time police cars will be showing the rainbow colours.

Brighton and Hove divisional commander Nev Kemp said police had been working hard for months with Pride organisers in order to make sure as many people as possible get to have “an enjoyable and safe weekend”.

He said the force aimed to “keep disruption to the local community to a minimum” while maintaining a visible presence with officers on the beat to “reassure and keep people safe”.

A warning has also been issued to anyone planning unlicensed and unofficial outside parties to celebrate the momentous weekend.

Sussex Police will be hosting a stand in Preston Park attended by LGBT officers and volunteers while Sussex Police and Crime Commissioner Katy Bourne will also have a stand.
