A Gatwick passenger has died after getting off a plane from the Ebola virus-hit country of Sierra Leone.

Medics are now testing the woman, 72, to see if she had the virus while the plane is in quarantine.

A national newspaper reported this morning that the woman was sweating and vomiting as she left the plane before she collapsed.

The plane, which was from Freetown, Sierra Leone, landed at Gatwick on Saturday morning at 8.15am.

There were 128 passengers on board.

A Gatwick spokeswoman confirmed the incident adding that the woman was taken ill before later dying in hospital.

The Ebola visrus has killed 826 in West Africa and has no known cure.

The World Health Organisation last week described the virus as “out of control” adding that a failure to control it could be “catastrophic”.
