A SUN-DRENCHED garden party was held to remember Brighton’s very own ‘cheeky chappy’.

Members of the Max Miller Appreciation Society shared tea, coffee and cakes in memory of their late but much-loved comedian, who left audiences worldwide in stitches in the 30s, 40s and 50s.

Yesterday’s celebration of the Brighton-born comedian, who lived from 1894 to 1963, was held at the Pavilion Gardens Cafe from 2pm to 5pm.

Guests at the bash included TV star June Brown, familiarly known as Dot Cotton from hit BBC1 show EastEnders.

June made a return to the garden party after being spotted at previous editions of the event.

Gerry Oxley, of the Max Miller Appreciation Society, said: “It all went very well and we had a great day.

“There were about 180 of us in all and we raised cash for Macmillan nurses.

“I haven’t got a total figure yet but we had lots of fun with a raffle and an auction of theatre memorabilia.”
