A teenager has been sentenced for setting fire to a top girls’ school.

The 16-year-old girl, who cannot be named for legal reasons, appeared at Hove Crown Court on August 1 following the blaze at Millais School in Horsham in March this year.

Six fire crews battled the blaze which broke out on the third floor of the school in Depot Road.

The 1,500 pupils and staff at the girls' school were evacuated from the building. There were no injuries.

The girl was given a three year supervision order, 240 hours of unpaid work and a nine month curfew order.

Chief Inspector Howard Hodges, Horsham District Commander, said: "I would like to thank both the pupils, staff and wider school for their support during this investigation."
