MYSTERY surrounds how a woman sustained serious head injuries, nearly a month after she was found collapsed.
The 48-year-old woman was found by members of the public in the Westway area of Lancing at about 9pm on July 8 and taken to Worthing hospital.
She has been discharged from hospital, but cannot remember what happened to her. None of her belongings had been taken.
A 41-year-old man from Lancing seen near the victim has been bailed until August 11 after his arrest on suspicion of careless driving, failing to stop after an accident and failing to report an accident.
Detective Sergeant Colin O'Hare is appealing for anyone with information to come forward.
He added: “We are working on three most likely hypotheses. She was either a victim of a hit and run collision, she was physically assaulted or suffered a fall resulting in her injuries."
