A Glyndebourne performer held back the pain of a dislocated knee to finish her performance.
German opera singer Christiane Karg received a standing ovation following the performance at the venue near Lewes on Sunday.
The 33-year-old, who was playing the lead role in Mozart’s opera La Finta, tripped over the set and fell awkwardly mid-way through the evening.
A doctor from the audience came up to check her injury and managed to pop her dislocated knee back into place.
However, she is reported to have refused to go to hospital or take painkillers and called for a chair to be placed centre stage.
After a short 15 minute break she then continued to sing the rest of the opera sitting down.
Following the conclusion she received a standing ovation from the audience.
