A GOVERNMENT minister will be visiting Sussex today.

Communities minister Penny Mordaunt is in London Road, Brighton, today during a whistle-stop tour of the area.

The Portsmouth North representative and former TV show Splash! contestant will visit the London Road Portas Pilot taking in HiSbe supermarket, the Open Market, Emporium theatre and Elder Place street art.

She will start the day with Hastings council leader Jeremy Birch, regeneration director Simon Hubbard and Hastings Pier Charity chief executive Simon Opie on a trip to the pier before heading to Norman Road to meet members of St Leonards Town Team in a visit lasting an hour.

The Government’s £2 million grant to Eastbourne following the town’s pier fire last week has come under fire from some politicians in Hastings which did not receive a similar payment following its own pier fire in 2010.
