The country's first community estate pub has launched a new fundraising bid to finish off its unique project with a traditional sign.

Organisers behind The Bevy, in Hillside, Brighton, are looking to raise £2,000 to have the new swinging pub sign custom-built.

The Bevy team is looking to resurrect the sign from The Bevendean Hotel, which incorporates the old rising sun design of the Brickwoods Brewery.

A new design has already been drawn up featuring the group’s More Than A Pub logo, which will be hand-made by Sussex Signs.

The group raised £44,000 through a community share offer and received a £130,000 social investment grant but said the money was tied up in kitting out the cellar, meeting room, bar and kitchen and so was turning to the generosity of local residents and businesses to fund the sign.
