TWO shop assistants have been fined for selling alcohol to children in an undercover police operation.

Children aged 15 and 16 volunteering for the police tried to buy alcohol from four shops in Hastings and Bexhill, on Monday July 28.

Happy Shopper in Little Common Road, Bexhill, and Turners in High Street, Hastings, sold alcohol to the children, police said. The shop assistant involved in each was fined £90.

Easy Shop in Ninfield Road, Sidley, sold cigarettes with foreign labelling to one of the volunteers, police said. The matter is being dealt with by Trading Standards.

Managers of shops that have sold alcohol to underage test purchasers normally have to with local police and licensing officers and show they are tackling the problem.
