A delivery driver who endangered other motorists because he was fed up with waiting in a queue has been banned from the roads.

Rick Garrison was caught on camera driving on the wrong side of the road and forcing oncoming cars to swerve out of the way.

The footage was recorded on the dashboard camera of a motorist heading south on the A22 at Halland, who passed it to police after the incident in September last year.

Traffic was queuing behind a tractor and trailer travelling at about 15mph but Garrison decided to overtake them by crossing the double white lines in the centre of the road in his white Mercedes Sprinter van.

Garrison, of Baas Hill Close, Broxbourne, Hertfordshire, was only in Sussex to make a delivery.

The 50-year-old pleaded guilty to dangerous driving when he appeared at Brighton Magistrates’ Court on July 14.

He was banned from driving for 12 months and was ordered to do 160 hours of community service and pay £85 costs and a £60 victim surcharge.

PC Martyn Quick said: “Garrison put other drivers in danger by ignoring the road markings, other traffic and common sense – all to save himself a delay of a few minutes.

“That decision has now cost him his licence, the use of the roads and many hours of his time as punishment and appearing in court.

“Road markings are there for a reason. If you ignore them and put yourself or other people at risk we will prosecute you.”
