A social care centre has celebrated the official opening of its new garden.
The Wayfield Avenue Resource Centre is run by Brighton and Hove City Council and provides residential and day services for people with a wide range of care needs including dementia.
The centre, in Hove, successfully bid for a grant of £36,000 from the Department of Health’s dementia friendly environments fund.
Most of the money has been used to transform a sloping, unusable outside space into a colourful, flat garden with seating and safe pathways for people using the centre’s day service.
A large amount of work was done by contractors but the centre also received help from members of the Holland Road Baptist Church and volunteers from the Hangleton and Knoll project. The centre held an official opening on Friday and used the celebration to help raise funds for Christmas gifts and activities.
Council lead member for adult care and health, Rob Jarrett, said: “The new garden is a wonderful addition to the excellent services Wayfield Avenue provides for local people who have dementia.”
