A CHOIR is marking its 40th anniversary by staging a series of free rehearsals to help people improve their health and wellbeing.

The workshops, which are open to everyone, coincide with the choir's move to St Peter's Church Hall, West Street, Shoreham next month.

The group is looking for more members and is inviting people to try out the group at the free sessions.

Music director Peter Farrant said a survey he carried out with members found many were less stressed and more relaxed after singing. He said other health benefits reported during the study included better posture, breathing, memory, energy, and boosted confidence.

He said: “We've a great season in store with a fantastic line up of works and the opportunity to experience concerts, festivals and workshops, singing alongside professional instrumentalists and soloists. Participants not only receive two hours of professional tuition at each session but a vocal workout proven to benefit mind, body and soul.”

The registered charity was founded in 1974, and since Mr Farrant joined in 1995 it has hosted workshops, festivals, tours, and has performed across the UK and abroad.

The open rehearsals take place on September 15, 22, and 29, from 7.30pm to 9.30pm.
