A Sheffield Wednesday fan who ran on to the pitch during Saturday’s season opener has been given a caution.
The 20-year-old ran from the away end after the final whistle following his team’s one-nil win over Brighton and Hove Albion.
He was tackled by five stewards and escorted off the pitch at the American Express Community Stadium. A Sussex Police spokesman said the man, from Pontefract, was arrested on suspicion of going on to the playing area at a football match.
He added: “He was taken into custody at Brighton and later cautioned for the offence before being released just after 6.30pm.” Ten-man Albion lost to Wednesday after Andrew Crofts was sent off and Giles Coke scored the winner.
