A man has died after he was hit by a train near a level crossing.
The 57-year-old man was pronounced dead at the scene yesterday evening after he was struck by the train near the Drayton Lane level crossing in Chichester.
At 8pm yesterday evening emergency services were called to scene after reports the man from Yapton had been hit by a train.
Passengers travelling from Havant to Brighton faced delays of up to an hour and replacement buses were laid on.
A British Transport Police (BTP) spokesman said: “Our officers were called to the line close to Drayton Lane level crossing, Chichester, at 8pm on Wednesday, 13 August after a report that a man had been struck by a train.
“A 57-year-old man, from Yapton, was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics from the South East Coast Ambulance Service.
“The incident is currently not being treated as suspicious.
“The man’s family have been informed and a file will be prepared for the coroner.”
