Police are appealing for witnesses after an 80-year-old woman was knocked down in a road rage incident.

The woman had been standing near her red Nissan Micra arguing with a man at the junction of Gingerbread Lane and the A268, in Hawkhurst, at about midday on 1 August when the man got into her car and began reversing it.

The 80-year-old was knocked to the ground. She had to be taken to hospital suffering from a suspected broken foot and injuries to her face and arm.

A 45-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of assault. He was questioned before being released on bail until 15 September.

PC Ian Riches of Sussex Police said: "Traffic was queueing in the road at the time so a number of drivers and pedestrians could have seen what happened.

"We would like to speak to anyone who was in the area at the time and who saw or heard anything."

Anyone with information should email 101@sussex.pnn.police.uk quoting serial 595 of 01/08, call 101 or contact the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.

It's a clear case of road rage under normal usage of the term.

Someone ended up being arrested for assault after an incident involving a car in which the driver was injured.

I cannot understand why the police weren't able to secure any witnesses at the scene.

Which sounds quite definite.

I think out of the 1000 or so crimes people end up in prison for, an assault on a vulnerable OAP, falls just behind kiddy fiddling, terrorism and animal abuse (murder and rape is a class of its own).

Therefore when this piece of fecal waste ends up doing bird, people will be aware of his crime. Let's hope he gets shanked across the face by a rusty blade.

And I bet he is reading this on bail, so be afraid Mr. 45 year old, be afraid.

There is an interesting emotive slant here. Would the Argus have given the age in the heading if the victim was a 30 year old?

Unlikely to go to prison matey for an assault such as this. Would be a result if the CPS even decide to prosecute!

You, sir, are either an idiot or the counsel for the defence. Would you have been equally critical had the headline read "Toddler/Teenager/Mu
m-to-be/Father of two/Disabled driver/ knocked down in suspected road rage incident? Idiot!

Justice will indeed take it's course, meanwhile it looks as though you've got a few issues yourself. Calm down a bit or go and get some help.
