Police are appealing for witnesses after an 80-year-old woman was knocked down in a road rage incident.

The woman had been standing near her red Nissan Micra arguing with a man at the junction of Gingerbread Lane and the A268, in Hawkhurst, at about midday on 1 August when the man got into her car and began reversing it.

The 80-year-old was knocked to the ground. She had to be taken to hospital suffering from a suspected broken foot and injuries to her face and arm.

A 45-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of assault. He was questioned before being released on bail until 15 September.

PC Ian Riches of Sussex Police said: "Traffic was queueing in the road at the time so a number of drivers and pedestrians could have seen what happened.

"We would like to speak to anyone who was in the area at the time and who saw or heard anything."
