PATIENTS are still waiting hours in accident and emergency departments.

Hundreds of people are spending up to 12 hours in A&E at the Royal Sussex County Hospital in Brighton and Princess Royal Hospital in Haywards Heath waiting for a bed to become available.

Figures published by NHS England show that in the six weeks up to August 10, a total of 719 patients waited between four and 12 hours at the two hospitals before being moved on to a ward.

The hospitals are both run by Brighton and Sussex University Hospitals NHS Trust.

Over the same period 66 patients had long waits at East Sussex Healthcare NHS Trust and 125 at Western Sussex Hospitals NHS Trust.
