VOLUNTEER lifeboat crews have been kept busy recently with a number of callouts.
On August 13, a lifeboat was launched after a man fell over the cliffs near Birling Gap.
At 1am the following day, Newhaven lifeboat crew was paged by Solent Coastguards after a woman was spotted in the River Ouse, near Newhaven Swing Bridge, although the crew was stood down before it left.
On Friday, Newhaven lifeboat was launched at 11.30am to recover a body from the base of the cliffs at Belle Tout.
And on Saturday, it was launched at 2.55pm to help a 28ft motor cruiser which had engine problems – it was towed back to Newhaven harbour.
Newhaven lifeboat Coxswain Paul Legendre said: “The station has had a busy few days.
“But our volunteer crew is prepared and ready to respond to any emergencies 24 hours a day, seven days a week, during this important holiday period.”
