An unidentified substance which was found leaking from a container in an office at Brighton police station has caused a chemical alert.
Firefighters were called to John Street at 2.12pm to reports of an unidentified substance was leaking from a container.
Crews from Hove and Roedean, along with a Hazardous Materials Advisor from East Sussex Fire & Rescue Service, entered the building wearing breathing apparatus and wearing protective clothing.
People working in the office were evacuated while firefighters checked the substance.
However the substance was deemed not to be dangerous.
It was removed it into the fresh air, pending specialist recovery.
A Sussex Police spokeswoman said: "It was chemical in nature and the occupants of the office were advised to open windows to clear any lingering fumes."
It was not necessary to evacuate the entire building.
