A motorcyclist has died after he collided with a car on Sunday.

The crash happened on the A29 at the bottom of Bury Hill, near Amberley, at about 4.30pm.

The male rider died at the scene.

The car driver was taken to St Richard's Hospital in Chichester and released later that day.

Road policing officers closed the road in both directions for more than five hours while they pieced together what happened, with diversions in place near Watersfield and the Whiteways Lodge roundabout.

The crash happened near the Squire and Horse pub in Bury village, about half a mile south of where a similar fatality occurred on March 30 this year.

Then, Oliver Bird, 37, of Shoreham lost his life in a collision.

A member of staff at the pub said the stretch was known for accidents.

She said: “You only need to google Bury Hill to know how many accidents we get here.”

A retained fire crew from Petworth was called to make the road safe.

Investigators were not in a position to reveal details of the motorcyclist to The Argus as his next of kin were yet to be informed.

A Sussex Police spokesman said of the motorcyclist: "He suffered fatal injuries and was pronounced life extinct at the scene."

He was unable to say if there had been any arrests as a result of the accident.
