A POP opera singer celebrated his chart-topping success by rushing back to Brighton to be with his friends.

Collabro member Richard Hadfield rushed home to celebrate with his friends after learning his band’s debut album Stars had gone in at the top of the UK charts.

The 20-year-old former Hurstpierpoint College pupil, from Portslade, found out that the Britain’s Got Talent winners were chart toppers while travelling back on a tour bus from Rhyl in Wales listening to the Radio 1 chart rundown.

The five-piece scuppered Ed Sheeran’s bid to become the first male artist to spend nine weeks at the top of the album charts on Sunday.

Richard, who spent bank holiday Monday relaxing with his family, told The Argus that he only arrived back in Brighton at about 10.45pm on Sunday night but then went straight to celebrate with his buddies in West Street nightclub Pryzm.

He said: “It’s just fantastic, it’s unbelievable.

“We were listening to Radio 1 chart rundown and we just went ballistic when we heard we were number one.”

Portslade is not even in Brighton, in fact it's not even contiguous with Brighton as you've got Hove in the middle!

He's so famous, he's been able to secure copyright over every picture ever taken of him.
