Lingfield Cricket Club Under-13s’ Henry Procter was the star of the show as they squeezed past St James Montefiore Cricket Club by 11 runs in the Sussex Junior Cricket Festival.

Procter smashed 72 at the top of the order before bowling 3-17 from his seven overs.

Lingfield’s Jake Narraway battled solidly for his 20 from 42 balls before he was caught by Louis Glass off the bowling of Adam Stephenson. Procter was joined by Seb McAlister who lasted 20 balls before he was caught by Cameron Crowther off the bowling of Jay O’Neill for 12.

Number four batsman Simon Dixon was run out first ball for 0.

Procter fell to Jake Riddell for 72 from 97 balls.

James Campbell added 10 before he was bowled by Ivo Christie for 10 off 29. Tyler Robertson (5 not out) entered the fray to close out the innings alongside Ross, who finished 26 not out in 33 balls, for Lingfield to close on 163-5 off 37 overs. Dale Stevenson went for 19 from seven overs and didn’t concede an extra. St James’ innings stuttered as both Glass (17) and Owen Howick (14) made starts before falling to Procter. He bowled Glass and then trapped Howick to leave the score at 40-2. O’Neill was run out by Simon Dickson for 2 and when Procter struck again to get rid of Owen May for 6, St James were reeling at 57-4. Andrew Young was joined by Ivo Christie and they put on 80 for the fifth wicket before Young fell to Jack Highland for 38 and Riddell was dismissed by Jake Narraway.

Ivo Christie was stumped off the bowling of Tyler Robertshaw for 56 off 48 balls and St James needed just 14 to win with three wickets in hand.

But PrPspells from Robertshaw and Narraway ripped through the Lingfield tail as they fell 12 short of the target.
