GREEN-fingered youngsters had some fun sowing seeds at a new public garden.

The activity day at the new Community Space Garden, in Lewes Road Recreation Ground, Newhaven, yesterday involved planting, cookery, planning the garden and eating soup.

Sussex Community Development Association started the project with a £30,000 grant from waste management company Veolia.

Fruit trees, wildflowers and other plants will be planted in the coming months and health activities will be provided.

A spokesman for the Veolia Environmental Trust said the event went “really well” and there was a “mix of ages from young children to elder people”.
