NEARLY 2,000 bottles of high-end wine have been stolen in a smash-and-grab raid.

Burglars forced their way into the The Winehouse in Brighton Road, Shoreham, shortly after midnight on Tuesday.

They stole an estimated 1,800 bottles, including boxes of 2012 Chablis Cuvée André Dom Malandes, 2012 Fleurie Les Garants and Saint-Bris Chablis Les Malandes, worth an estimated £14,000.

The Winehouse is the sole importer of those three lines in the country, distributing them to restaurants or off-licences.

Police are appealing for witnessses to the raid between 12.15 am and 1.15am on Tuesday (August 26).

PC Sally Howarth, of Sussex Police, said: "If you are offered some of the bottles by someone who isn't from The Winehouse please contact us.

"A number of people must have been involved to have removed so many bottles of wine in such a short period of time and they would have needed a van or a lorry to take them away.

"We also need to speak to anyone who was in the Brighton Road area in the early hours of Tuesday morning and who may have seen or heard something suspicious or anyone who saw a vehicle parked outside The Winehouse at that time."

Anyone with information should email 101@sussex.pnn.police.uk quoting serial 139 of 26/08, call 101, or call Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555111.

LOL - the Argus decribes this wine as high end - at £7 a bottle that is not high end at all. Maybe it is for the Argus reporters!

That's the wholesale price.

You won't be buying a bottle of Chablis Cuvée André Dom Malandes under £20 from any restaurant or off-licence.

Sorry everyone, I know the guys who run this business. Very decent and honest chaps who work very hard supplying a lot of Brightons restaurants and pubs as well as the public. Any trolls on here who think this is funny - take a hike. It's not funny. It's their livelihood.

I'd hardly describe this as a "smash and grab" raid, which suggests an opportunistic spur of the moment thing- this was obviously a well planned and organised theft.

I'm delighted to see that so many people are upset about the fact that I was able to indicate the retail price range of Chablis Cuvée André Des Malandes as being above £20.

You haven't commented upon the topic, so there was nothing to which anyone could respond.

I happen to know that Gareth Davis enjoys a pint of wine as much as the next man! also that Siobhan has been known to dance the dance of the seven veils after a bottle of 7.00 Chardonnay...and sometimes on the promise of one!

I was not only impressed Jared, I was educated too. You know who is repeatedly putting the minus figures on... A hint...he ferries old people around all day, reeks of stale urine and mothballs and whilst it is a valuable service...is hardly Ambulance Driving!! Keep up the great work, funny educational and to date... 100 percent correct ,

Hey, I'll tolerate anyone being a racist sexist homophobic xenophobic bore with too much time on their hands, but I get annoyed when people log on here repeatedly and make massive numbers of negative recommendations to sensible, well thought out posts.

I wouldn't worry about high minus scores.

They are given to posts that people cannot argue against.
