George Osborne took to the stage today to announce a major boost for regional theatres.

The Chancellor trod the boards at the historic Theatre Royal Brighton to announce a major tax relief for production companies.

Brighton and Hove theatregoers are set to be among the first to reap the benefits of the newly announced financial incentive when a Theatre Royal Brighton Productions and English Touring Theatre production of Tom Stoppard’s Arcadia comes to the city in January.

The team behind the hotly-anticipated production have said a show of its size with a touring cast and crew of 20 people would not have been possible without the tax break.

The Chancellor will also visit Hove and Hastings today.

Following on from this, it would be nice to think that the Hippodrome could be returned to being a theatre, and the Astoria could then revert to being used as a cinema, rather than being converted into a souless, uninspired set of offices and penthouse apartments.

Awful man. The Tory's have let us all down on immigration. Voting UKIP is the only way to protect out borders.

Great, we can get cheaper Theater tickets but still have to pay a small fortune for parking. What about something for the common man.

The stage is fitting for Osborne; he's a hammy actor reading from a script! Also an utter kn*b jockey.....roll on next year when he and his privileged cronies get booted out for good.

It's a Shakespearian tragedy - his Government decimates the British Film industry, then gives a couple of quid to theatres.

Still, I suppose Bullingdon boys are more used to the theatre - cinema's are just for the rest of us "riff raff".

Still his acting is pretty good - the economy is on the mend, with more jobs, unemployment dropping - even though the balance of payments is dire, the new jobs are zero hours/temporary, and he is missing the deficit reduction promise he made, and wages are still stagnating r reducing.

Other than that it's all brilliant in the "real world" of the theatre.
