ITV will show the Sussex stage of the Tour of Britain cycle race on TV.

The seventh stage on September 13 will be shown on ITV4 from 1pm to 4pm, with a highlights show on 8pm and 9pm.

Former Tour de France winner Sir Bradley Wiggins and British sprinter Mark Cavendish have already been confirmed for the race.

The Sussex stage will begin in Camberley in Surrey before coming into Sussex near Fernhurst.

The riders will race through Petworth, Horsham, Haywards Heath, Uckfield, Horam, Hailsham, Eastbourne, Seaford and Lewes before finishing in Brighton.

Brighton and Hove City Council deputy leader Ian Davey said the event is an opportunity to show off the city to a national audience.

He said: “One reason why we wanted the race here was to raise the city’s profile and help local businesses by attracting spectators and putting Brighton into the minds of hundreds of thousands of potential visitors. Getting on live national TV is a crucial part of delivering those benefits.”

The other eight stages will also be shown live on ITV4 with highlights in the evening. The event’s first stage in Liverpool will be live on ITV1 on September 7.
