A university has appointed its first-ever professor of journalism.

Prof Ivor Gaber will start at the University of Sussex in September after previous posts at City University London and Bedfordshire University.

He has helped in the televising of Parliament and planned BBC Radio 5 Live’s coverage of politics.

He became the UK’s first full-time professor of broadcast journalism at Goldsmiths, University of London in 1994.
