A man was punched and kicked in an attempted town centre robbery.

The 49-year-old was approached outside Waterstones and Laura Ashley off Montague Street, Worthing, on Monday at 8.10pm.

The victim was approached by a man who assaulted him and demanded his money.

Detective Constable Beccy Hopkins said: "Fortunately the victim wasn't seriously hurt but he was very upset.

"We would particularly like to speak to two women who helped the victim or anyone else who witnessed this assault and attempted robbery, or may have any information which could help our investigation."

A 25-year-old man from Worthing has been arrested on suspicion of attempted robbery and assault.

He was questioned and released on bail until Saturday, September 13.
