An army of volunteers are set to take on a mass litter pick in Brighton’s Royal Pavilion Gardens – but we’re looking for more and need your help.

The event will be the second City Makers initiative which was launched by The Argus in May.

Earlier this year, hundreds took part in the first City Makers Big Beach Clean Up.

The City Makers scheme mobilises members of the community, including staff from some of Brighton and Hove’s biggest employers, to take part in activities that will benefit the city.

This time, our volunteers will help to clean the Royal Pavilion Gardens on Wednesday, September 10.

Michael Beard, editor of The Argus, praised the previous Big Beach Clean Up volunteers and urged more people to come forward for the clean up in the gardens.

He said: “I’d like to say a heartfelt thanks to everyone who turned up to support the beach clean last time – the first project for our City Makers.

“What really struck me was the desire and willingness to carry out something that makes a real difference.

“That was just the start. Now we’re looking for people to help with the next project.

“We are so keen to carry out as many events like this as possible to make the city an even better place.”

Janita Bagshawem, head of Royal Pavilion, Arts and Museums, said: “I’m really delighted that The Argus is helping us to clear up the Royal Pavilion Gardens and highlight the very significant problem of littering.

“Our teams do a fantastic job but after a spell of good weather the effect of rubbish left behind on the gardens can be devastating.

“We need everyone who comes to enjoy these beautiful, historic gardens to take their litter home.”

Can you help? For more information and if you wish to help at the clean up call 01273 544516 or simply turn up on the day at 8.45am for a 9am start.

All volunteers are welcome.
