A BRAVE teenager who is battling Crohn’s disease and diabetes was given a night to remember after being taken to see his favourite comedian in a stretch limousine.

Scott Simmonds, 16, from Lancing, was surprised by his mum after a tough year which has seen him in and out hospital on numerous occasions as well as undergoing two operations in three weeks.

Michelle Huggett, 38, said: “The tickets were a birthday present but I wanted to make the night really special.

“Lee Evans is his favourite comedian and I thought what better way to get there than in a limousine.

“He has been through a lot in the last couple of years after first being diagnosed with Crohn’s and then type one diabetes.

“He has been in hospital a lot and at times I thought I would lose him.”

The limousine picked Scott and his mum up from their Hurstfield home before taking them to the Brighton Centre.

No expense was spared with a bar, leather seats and flashing lights filling the interior.

Such was the luxury, on their arrival fans thought the pair were VIPs.

Mr Simmonds said: “It was really funny. All the cameras were going off, I think they thought we were VIPs or maybe even Lee. When we opened the doors their faces just dropped. It was very funny.

“Lee was really good. I’ve always liked him. It was a really good night.”

The following day it was back to their normal routine with a trip to the hospital.

Ms Huggett said: “He has been incredible this last year. I’m really proud of him. He has been quite ill but he has been very brave.

“We really wanted to top the night off by meeting Lee but unfortunately we couldn’t get to the front of the stage in time.”

Lee Evans plays his final show at the Brighton Centre tonight before continuing his tour in Nottingham.
