AROUND 30 caravans and other vehicles moved onto a public park at the weekend.
Travellers first moved onto St Helen’s Green, in Hangleton, Hove, at 7pm on Friday.
They were joined by 20 more caravans and vehicles the following evening.
Police and councillors visited the group over the weekend but last night the travellers were still at the park.
Conservative Coun Janio said: “I’m staggered the council does not have someone on at the weekend to deal with travellers.
“It has 9,000 employees and a budget of £800million and a chief executive who gets paid more than the Prime Minister. It’s nuts.
“There is no need for a delay. The police told us they are waiting for the council. It should not be like that.”
Coun Barnett added that she has asked Police and Crime Commissioner Katy Bourne to intervene before community relations were further damaged.
