Plans to turn Natwest site into a café

Soon to be an ice cream parlour

Soon to be an ice cream parlour

First published in News

A FORMER bank is to be converted into an ice cream parlour.

A planning application has been submitted to turn the Grade II listed 86 Western Road, Brighton, into a cafe.

Built in 1905, the building had been a bank since 1925 until Natwest moved out last year.

Creams London Ltd submitted plans last week to Brighton and Hove City Council to revive the historic building.

The plans will see the building stripped before decorated in their firm’s branding while retaining many of the original features.

When complete, the ice cream parlour will be able to serve 120 people with around 10 staff working at any one time.

Brighton and Hove City Council has set a target decision date of October 16.

Talking of NatWest, why has their former branch in Lewes Road got bailiffs' repossession orders on the windows? That's the sort of thing you expect to see when a small independent shop goes down the pan. Have they done a runner and defaulted on their lease? Very strange.

Perhaps that had nothing to do with NatWest, but everything to do with squatters.

Good time of year to be planning to open an ice cream parlour. I'm no businessman, but 120 people at any one time sounds slightly optimistic.

It doesn't say that.

It will be able (ie have the ability) to serve 120 people due to it having 10 staff at any one time able to do that serving.
