HOY me hearties. There were swords, eye patches and treasure chests aplenty when Munchkins Parent and Toddler Group held a pirate day.

The Summerhayes centre in Newhaven was decked in pirate bunting for the event last Thursday.

Group organiser Janet Gunn said the highlight of the event was a treasure hunt for gold chocolate coins, which the children took home in their treasure chests.

This Thursday the group will hold its annual teddy bears picnic for children under five, accompanied by a parent or guardian.

Funny that pirates were savage murderers, rapists and thieves, but are now deemed child-friendly.
