They may not have the physiques of Greek gods, but no one could accuse them of not trying their hardest.

Hundreds of participants ran through fire, trampled through mud and scrambled up ropes for the extreme Spartan Super last Sunday.

The gruelling 13km course took the elite competitors about 80 minutes and the less elite several hours at the challenge in Pippingford Park in Uckfield.

Globally, more than one million participants have taken part in 60 Spartan events around the globe including events held in the United States, Canada, Mexico, the UK, Slovakia and the Czech Republic.
