A Sussex showjumper cantered to victory in the Natural Animal Feeds Pony Five Star Style for Performance.

Megan Maguire, 12, from Horsham rode to victory in the 1* section of the national championships on Serina – a seven-year-old chestnut mare owned by her mother Karen.

The pair won the Style for Performance class on August 18, held as a key part of the National Inter Academy Team Show held at Weston Lawns Equitation Centre in Bulkington, Warwickshire.

The class was divided into a 1* section and 2* section.

The 1* section was for riders who have gained their 1* Award of the NAF Pony Five Star Performance Awards Programme, whilst those who have achieved their 2* Award and above were eligible for the 2* section.

Each section was made up of two parts with the first part requiring riders to complete a flatwork test before moving onto part two, which involved jumping a course of up to eight fences.

Those in the 1* section competed over 70cm fences, and riders were judged on both parts by the selected panel, which was made up of UKCC Level Three Coaches Sonya Brotherton, Ernest Dillon, Nicky Florence and Nicola Sheard.

The judges were particularly pleased to see that those combinations who received good comments and scores in the flatwork element also went on to show great technique when jumping.
