A SPATE of car thefts in Eastbourne at the weekend have prompted police warnings for drivers to keep their vehicles secure.

Four incidents took place overnight between Sunday, August 31, and Monday, September 1, in the Shinewater area of the town.

Fishing gear and a Tom-Tom satellite navigation device was stolen from a Ford Focus in Shalfleet Close, keys, clothing and CDs taken from a car in Carisbrooke Close. Items not yet disclosed by police were also stolen from Ventnor Close and Orchid Close.

A Sussex Police spokesman said: “House-to-house visits have been made by police to reassure residents that thefts are under investigation, to seek witnesses and to offer advice. Car owners are being reminded to lock and secure their vehicles, even if parked off-road, and not to leave valuables in cars or on view. “Anyone who may have seen anything suspicious or who has information about these or other thefts from cars is asked to email 101@sussex.pnn.police.uk or phone 101, quoting serial 1820 of 31/8.”
