AMBULANCE workers already save lives but went another extra mile in helping others by having freezing water and ice poured over them for charity.

South East Coast Ambulance Service (SECAmb) staff were drenched by Lewes firefighters on Tuesday to raise money for Macmillan Cancer Care, in support of a colleague.

The team of 40 from Lewes emergency operations centre turned out on their day off to valiantly complete the Ice Bucket Challenge, the charitable craze sweeping the world, in which participants are doused with ice before donating money to charity.

They took the craze to another level by nominating entire teams rather than individuals to do the challenge next, naming the SECAmb Medical Directorate, Lewes Scheduling Department, the EOC management team and Ashford NHS 111.
