A man was killed by a train at a level crossing.

Emergency services pronounced him dead at the scene shortly after 10am yesterday morning (Sep 5).

The death happened at a level crossing between Crawley and Ifield.

Police officers are now trying to work out who he is so they can inform his family.

A British Transport Police spokesman said: “The incident is not being treated as suspicious and a file will be prepared for the coroner.”

Southern Rail confirmed a train on its Arun Valley route was involved.

A spokeswoman said the train involved was a lightly loaded service but that the incident led to disruption throughout the morning.
