A 52-year-old Range Rover driver has been released on bail following a crash which killed two motorcyclists.

The accident happened at about 6.30pm on Sunday in Chuck Hatch on the B2026 at its junction with Wrens Warren.

The road was closed between Chuck Hatch Lane and Kidd's Hill while the emergency services were at the scene.

The motorcyclists were on a white Yamaha R1 and a red Kawasaki ZX600 heading south that collided with a green Range Rover at the junction.

Both of the motorcyclists - a 19-year-old man from Forest Row and a 20-year-old man from Turners Hill - died at the scene.

The Range Rover driver, of Chuck Hatch, was treated at the scene for shock.

He was subsequently arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving. He was being questioned in custody and was then released on bail until November 10 2014 while enquiries continue.

Sergeant Mark Baker, of Sussex and Surrey roads policing unit, said: "The B2026 is a very isolated road so it is unlikely that there were many motorists that saw any of the vehicles in the area just before the crash.

"However we are keen to speak to anyone who may have seen the motorcycles or the Range Rover being driven in the minutes beforehand.

"If you remember anything at all about them, please contact us. What you tell us could be vital to our investigation.

"The crash has left two families grieving for loved ones tonight and we urgently need to speak to anyone who knows anything about what happened."

A spokesman for Sussex Police said: "A 52-year-old man who was at the wheel of the Range Rover involved in Sunday's double fatal collision at Chuck Hatch, near Hartfield, and who was arrested on suspicion of causing death by dangerous driving, has been released on bail until November while enquiries continue."
