GENEROUS charity fundraisers braved chilly waters to swim between Brighton’s two iconic piers.

Staff and swimmers from Brighton Swimming School swam 1km from the West Pier to Palace Pier on Sunday. Their early-morning stunt aimed to raise money for an AIDS orphanage in Swaziland.

The swim, now in its third year, raises around £1,000 annually and helps employ and equip a swimming teacher at the African orphanage.

About 50 children at the orphanage are taught to swim by a formerly unemployed sports teacher called Menzi Masina.

Menzi’s classes, funded by the charity swims in Brighton, ensure a huge number of orphans stay safe in and around Swaziland’s many rivers and lakes.
