POLICE are appealing for witnesses after a woman was attacked in a tunnel.

The 30-year-old woman was walking in a tunnel near Bloomery Way, Maresfield, between 9pm and 10pm on Wednesday, September 10 when she was approached by a man from the Oakwood Park showground direction.

The victim was grabbed and pushed against the tunnel wall by her attacker. Whilst trying to escape she was punched in the face causing significant swelling and bruising. She managed to push him over and get away. When running away she passed two men who were walking along the path, one was carrying a torch.

PC Emily Kemp said: "We are appealing for these men to come forward and talk to us as they might have information which can help find this man. The man is described as approximately 5' 9" of medium build, wearing a dark coloured beanie hat and a black bomber jacket.

"If anyone else saw anything in the area or who might have seen a man in the area where the attack took place please get in touch.

"Anyone who witnessed the incident is asked to call 101 quoting serial 0020 of 11/9. Alternatively, call the independent charity Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111."
