CHILDREN as young as ten are being enlisted in the fight against crime and disorder.
Ten and 11-year-olds are creating a Junior Neighbourhood Watch scheme at their school.
The 16 Ocklynge Junior School, Eastbourne, students will have six weeks of training after school, taught by Neighbourhood Watch volunteers.
A Sussex Police spokesperson said the training would “encourage them to take a proactive approach in reducing crime at home and in the community.”
Chief Inspector Steve Biglands, Eastbourne district commander, said he had been “hugely impressed” by one of the training sessions.
He added: “It was more like a pantomime than a lesson- hugely enjoyable with a series of good safety messages communicated".
PC Richard Anderson, neighbourhood schools officer, said he was “really excited” to be involved in the scheme, adding: “I am certain that the children lucky enough to be selected will benefit immensely from taking part."
