THE judges found it easier to come to a clear decision about who would leave the tent in this evening’s episode of the Great British Bake Off.

Brighton’s culinary queen saw her dreams crumble last night as she became the latest contestant to leave the Bake Off tent.

Kate Henry said she was gutted to be leaving the BBC1 cookery competition, after judges said she had a flaky performance in pastry week and branded her attempts at show-stopping éclairs a “mess”.

She came close to elimination last week but was given a reprieve when judges Mary Berry and Paul Hollywood could not reach a decision on whether she or builder Richard Burr deserved the chop and did not send anyone home.

This week Mr Burr rose to the challenge and was named star baker for the third time, while Brighton’s 41-year-old furniture restorer was the seventh to leave the contest, just two weeks after she was also celebrating as star baker.

The mum, who lives with daughter Eloise and grows her own produce in her allotment, said: "I am overwhelmingly glad I took part in the show. I have learned so much from doing this.

“It’s been an amazing and terrifying experience at the same time.”

Kate Henry will appear on the The Great British Bake Off: An Extra Slice, hosted by Jo Brand, on Friday on BBC2 at 9pm.
