The Brighton Hippodrome has topped an annual list to find the most at-risk theatres in the country.
The Grade II* theatre in Middle Street, Brighton, tops the thirty-three theatres on The Theatres Trust's Theatre Buildings at Risk Register 2014.
Plans to convert the Frank Matcham designed landmark into an eight-screen cinema and restaurant complex were approved in July and all interested parties are now eagerly awaiting communities minister Eric Pickles’ decision on whether to “call-in” the proposal.
The annually published Register features the most 'at risk' theatre buildings across the UK under threat of demolition and redevelopment, theatres that lie abandoned, neglected and decaying, and theatres in use at risk of closure.
This year's register will be launched at The Theatre Royal Brighton in New Street later this morning.
