A RAINBOW of colours hit the coast as a fun-run with a difference brightened up the weekend.

Ten thousand people headed to Madeira Drive in Brighton to take part in the second annual Color Run event.

Two races were held on Saturday after high demand for places at the city’s first run last year.

Those taking part wore white and they were pelted with coloured powder at 1km intervals around the course.

At the end of the route they took part in a mini dance festival, which featured more colour explosions and DJ entertainment. The powder is made from cornstarch and food dye so it is natural and causes no harm to the skin or the environment.

Event director Jo Rafferty said the Color Run was a one-of-a-kind experience that is less about speed and more about enjoying a colour crazy day with friends and family.

He said: “People can walk, crawl, run or jump around the course.

“We don’t mind. What we do want is for everyone to have a lot of fun and just go mad.

“Brighton and Hove is a brilliant, cool city and has a reputation of being a place where people know how to have a good time.

“This fitted in perfectly with our ethos and we have been delighted with how people in the city have embraced both last year and again this time around.

“Tickets sold out so fast and people have really got into the spirit of it all.

“We hope everyone had a great day and plenty of laughs and we look forward to seeing you all again next year.”

The event also raises funds for local and national charities, with Save the Children the main charity partner for this year’s run.

The Color Run was founded in the US in January 2012 by Travis Snyder and has since spread across the globe.

The UK version has events in London, Manchester, Birmingham, Belfast and Sunderland as well as Brighton.
