A JOBLESS graduate has recorded a David Brent-style video of himself in an attempt to get hired.

Will Bower, 21, finished his Business and Management Studies at the University of Sussex in the summer and gained a 2:1.

Despite applying for numerous jobs, the Crawley man has been unable to secure work.

Desperate to make his mark in the business world he has turned to fictitious paper merchant boss from The Office, played by Ricky Gervais, in an attempt to get his big break.

Mr Bower said: “I’ve been applying to marketing companies in London and they must get hundreds of application to look through.

“I tried to think of a way to stand out from the crowd so I made the video.

“I find it difficult to brag about myself and big myself up so I thought I would do it as David Brent.

“After all, if in doubt go to the man who does it best.”

Dressed in shirt, suit and tie, he filmed the short clip of himself last Wednesday and uploaded it on Thursday.

Having already received a number of encouraging comments, he is now waiting to see if he gets any job offers or interviews.

The video features him answering a number of questions from a pretend interviewer in which he explains his qualities and experiences such as appearing on BBC radio, meeting with the speaker of the House of Commons and passing his driving theory test first time – all the time in the style of David Brent.

Asked in the video why he is yet to get a job, he said: “Truth is I’ve been waiting, playing hard to get as they say. Tip: let the companies come to you. Don’t go to the job. Naturally, gravitate, synergy.”

Mr Bower has turned his hand in recent months to making promotional videos for companies and night clubs.

He also made a video with Crawley MP Henry Smith about his addiction to selfies.

Speaking to The Argus, Mr Bower said he was happy to consider any employment and said “beggars can’t be choosers”.
